The utility has been officially renamed to Desktop Frames +.
Because this is a portable application, upgrading is completely safe and doesn't require an installer. The new version features an automated migration engine that will seamlessly update your old configuration files to the new format across all your profiles.
Follow these steps to migrate your setup:
Step 1: Shut Down the Old App Ensure your current version of the program is completely closed. Right-click the icon in your Windows system tray and select Exit.
Step 2: Prepare Your New Folder Extract the new Desktop Frames + files anywhere on your computer. Because the app is 100% portable, you can name this new installation folder whatever you prefer (for example: C:\Tools\DesktopFrames).
Step 3: Transfer Your Profile Data Open your old program folder. Copy the following items:
-
The entire
Profilesfolder (This contains all your individual profile configurations, layouts, shortcuts, and backups) -
ProfileOptions.json(Your master profile configuration file)
Paste these items directly into your new Desktop Frames + folder. If prompted, choose to overwrite/replace any existing files.
Step 4: Launch and Let It Upgrade Run the new application executable.
The moment you launch the app, it will automatically scan your Profiles folder. It will seamlessly translate your old .json files to the new standard, and load your desktop exactly as you left it.
Step 5: Clean Up Once you have verified that your frames and shortcuts are displaying correctly, you can safely delete your old program folder.
