How to change highlight colors for NeoTree?

As you can see here, I am using the "Black Metal" base16 theme, but NeoTree uses this bright orange for the "NeoTreeGitConflict" and "NeoTreeGitUntracked" highlight groups, and I am having a really hard time changing them.

I have tried the following things:

I just discovered the overrideHighlight property on the docs page! That was it!
