πŸ‘‹ Hi, I'm Nicolas Fodor

πŸš€ Technology Pioneer | Software Developer | Architect | Founder

I've spent 20+ years at the intersection of Internet, mobile, and cloud innovation β€” from building one of the world's first Internet software companies in 1992 to designing modern decentralized cloud platforms today.

My work has been featured in The New York Times and MIT Technology Review and includes multiple "firsts" in technology history β€” Internet email on PC networks, the first client-server tool for Macintosh, the first Windows DB admin tool for Sybase SQL Server, the first carrier-grade mobile app, and the first SMS-alternative messaging app on iOS.

πŸ” Current Focus

  • Founder & Lead Architect at SETIP.IO – Building a decentralized cloud execution platform that delivers scalable, cost-efficient alternatives to traditional vendors.
  • Consulting & Architecture – Helping companies scale SaaS, cloud, and real-time platforms (like I did at PubNub for Clubhouse).
  • Exploring emerging tech through hands-on consulting and prototyping roles to keep learning and building in the real world.

πŸ† Key Pioneering Achievements

  • Datawave / Comsurfer (1992) – Among the world's first Internet software companies; launched Comsurfer (later SetNet Proxy Mail) enabling Internet email on PC networks with fax modems. SetNet Archive (1997)
  • GraphTools – First client-server development tool for Macintosh, with visual design + C code generation; adopted at CERN.
  • SQLTools (1993) – First Windows database administration tool ever created (for any database), built for Sybase SQL Server before Microsoft's acquisition. Sold as shareware on CompuServe when Oracle and other vendors were still Unix-only with no native Windows tools.
  • Carrier Mobile Email (1995) – Invented the first carrier-grade mobile app using text-to-speech to access and reply to Internet email by phone.
  • Freedom Pix (2008) – First SMS-alternative messaging app on iOS, introducing cross-device picture sharing and direct-to-number messaging (concepts later popularized by WhatsApp).
  • PubNub / Clubhouse (2020) – Scaled PubNub's infrastructure for Clubhouse's hypergrowth and launched GitHub Components strategy during COVID live-event boom.
  • SETIP.IO (Present) – Decentralized cloud execution platform providing scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient services.
