NAV Kafka Docker Compose

This is a docker-compose project for creating a simple production-alike environment. It can be used for running an application locally, testing kafka adminrest, creating pipelines etc. By default there is no topics created so it might be a good idea to run kafka-adminrest locally, this will be added to the docker-compose setup later on.

Technologies used

  • docker-compose
  • openldap as an replacement for Active Directory
  • confluent zookeeper docker image
  • confluent kafka docker image with the open source NAV AD authorization addon
  • kafka-adminrest for automatic creation of topic and groups

Running

Running should be as simple as docker-compose build, then docker-compose up, the ports for ldap, zookeeper and kafka should be automatically exposed

General usage

Adding topics and groups

The image has support for kafka-adminrest, which means you can create topics using the oneshot or topic + group api

Adding using oneshot

You can add topics and groups using the oneshot API, an example command and payload is provided

curl -X PUT "http://igroup:itest@localhost:8840/api/v1/oneshot" -H "Accept: application/json" -H "Content-Type: application/json" --data "@/path/to/file"`

For an example of the payload see example_navkafka.json, oneshot also supports a few config attributes, check swagger for whats supported in oneshot

Topics and groups api

Other then the oneshot API you can also use the topics + groups api, usage of these endpoints is documented within swagger

Swagger documentation

Swagger documentation for all the endpoints is available at http://localhost:8840/api/v1/apidocs/index.html?url=swagger.json

Adding users to ldap

Currently there are no easy ways to add users to LDAP, however its possible using the user igroup with the password itest and using the command ldapadd against the URL ldap://localhost:10636

Environment variables for kafka-adminrest

These environment variables should work for running kafka-adminrest against docker-compose

LDAP_AUTH_PORT=10636
