Mpv's version numbering follows the Major.Minor.Fix format, but releases always only involve minor (actually only major) releases with no fix releases
Version 0.40.0 is over six months old and still, for example, uses 100% of one CPU core on Wayland.
Why don’t you release intermediate versions?

At the time the reasoning for not making a new release was that only niri supported the ext-data-control protocol and it was not a security issue and you could fix it by setting the vo clipboard backend.
