How do you get a Discord bot token?

It's quite simple, really.

  1. Head over to https://discord.com/developers

  2. Log in, accept the terms and create a new application.

  1. Give it a cool name, though this isn't very important right now. We're looking for the bot section

  1. Now, create a new bot by clicking the "Add bot" button.

  1. It's ALIVE!! Now, click the "Copy" button under the token section.

You should not share the token with other people. Don't worry though, monkeModMail does not do any weird things and never will!

  1. Paste the token into the config.yml at the bot-token option.

Now, you need to invite your bot to your Discord server. How do you do that?

  1. This site makes it very easy to generate an invite link.

  2. It asks for a Client ID. You can get this from the "General Information" tab on your application's page. Click "Copy" near the "Application ID".

  3. Paste it into the permissions calculator, and tick the "Administrator" box. Don't worry! The bot will not do anything scary!

  4. Click the link and invite the bot to the correct server!

  5. You're done! Enjoy!
