⚠️ Known Issue: Cannot update extensions

There is an issue where Extension Manager will not be able to update your extensions on select older versions of GNOME Shell. Support for Extension Manager has been added to GNOME Shell and should reach your distribution shortly.

Does this affect me?

If you are running GNOME 43 then Extension Manager works out of the box - no need to do anything!

For other versions of GNOME, you can confirm whether Extension Manager is able to work standalone on your system using the table below. Note you must be running a GNOME Shell version equal or greater to that listed.

Extension Manager is fully supported by the following versions:

Version Supported
GNOME 43+ All Versions
GNOME 42 For 42.4 and above
GNOME 41 For 41.9 and above
GNOME 40 Unsupported

Check GNOME Version

You can check your GNOME Version in the Settings app under the About tab:

Simple Workaround

Don't worry! You can still handle updating inside Extension Manager. In addition to having Extension Manager installed, make sure to also install the official GNOME Extensions app. You can do so from Flathub here, or from your distribution's package repositories.

You do not need to have GNOME Extensions open for updating to work, only installed in the background.

Searching for 'Extension' should bring up both apps:
