Setting Up Mining Visualizer

Mining Visualizer is a program that monitors your miners, and drives the desktop widgets and the Web App. It is often referred to as MVis. It would normally be installed on your desktop computer. It is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The installation & setup steps are very similar for all 3 platforms, and are presented below.

Install

  • Download the .zip / .tar.gz file containing the latest version of MVis and extract it to a folder of your choice
  • The first time it runs it will create some config files at %LocalAppData%/ethminer when running under Windows, or at $HOME/.config/ethminer when running under OSX or Linux.

Setup

  • Double-click MiningVisualizer to launch the program.
  • Select Tools / Preferences from the menu
  • Click the green Plus sign to add a new miner

Preferences

  • Fill in the name and IP address fields for the miner
  • Enter in the number of GPU's and the expected hash rate

Miner Edit

  • If the miner is currently running, click the Test Connection button to verify that you have a good network connection with the miner
  • Click Ok, and then close the Preferences dialog. If the mining rig is running, you should see a message in the log view stating that <Rig_Name> has connected
  • Visit the Configuration Page of MVis for a full rundown on all the configuration options.

Desktop Widgets

Mining Visualizer comes with a set of desktop widgets for both Windows and Mac OS X. Under Windows, widget support is provided by Rainmeter (setup instructions), and under Mac OS X the widget support is provided by GeekTool (setup instructions). There is nothing currently available for Linux. Desktop widgets are possible under Linux using a program called Conky, but no development work has been done in this regard.
