I apologise for not responding to your email more quickly. The formal proposal submission process starts at the end of next week (16/03) and, until then, the main channel of communication is supposed to be through this GitHub repo. That said, starting at some point next week, we will start assigning mentors to mentees, so you should hear from us then. Your candidacy is acknowledged. |

ok thanks for clarifying @jonbrenas and should i start making proposal i am asking this because on docs it is written that we have to make and send skeleton of project on email so till now i only made the skeleton of project not proposal so should i start making proposal or like wait for 16 march to make with the guidance of mentors? |

Full proposals are not expected at this stage. You are welcome to start thinking about it more deeply but a skeleton of your plan is enough. You just need to be able to show to the mentors that you understand the problem, that you have started to think about potential solutions and that you are able to plan ahead. |

Of course, your own ideas are welcome. I would even recommend that you make your own proposals as it shows creativity and understanding of the context and problem. |

Heyy @jonbrenas! My name is Bianca Sawant, a B.Tech CSE student. I was really interested in Project #2 (machine-learning taxon classifier for genomic classification in malaria mosquitoes). I wanted to ask, what will make you recognise our candidacy and assign us mentors? Is it getting a PR merged in this reporsitory, or making an introduction? |

Have you followed the steps described there? You will need to work on a PR but it doesn't need to be merged. |

Well, we don't have the resources to send feedback to everyone who went through the normal process. We will review every proposal during the reviewing period but anything more is going to be difficult. |

Hi @suhr25, I don't really have tips or resources. We are currently mentoring more than 30 different candidates with a wide-variety of proposals. I think creating a proposal that you are comfortable with is the best we can ask for. |

ok @jonbrenas as you know i am merging two ideas(existing idea + my own idea) so is this merging provide me any edge over other candidates while selection? please clarify this and i have also shared prototype in proposal |

Yes, of course! Anything that makes your proposal stand out gives you an edge. Original ideas, particularly so. |

hii @jonbrenas i have a quick question that i am submitting proposal on portal and i am made proposal on existing idea + my own idea as you know so should i select project medium or large on portal please clarify this asap |

Hi @mandeepsingh2007, I would advise you to submit as a medium project. GSoC said in some of their communications that they are likely to disregard submissions that have a different size from the proposed project. |

Hii @jonbrenas Just checked my GSOC dashboard and profile and unfortunately I am not selected for malariagen can you please give me feedback why I am rejected so that I can improve although I didn't recieve the mail yet rejection or selection |

Hi @mandeepsingh2007, we are not allowed to communicate on the decision process. All that I can tell you is that it was a very competitive process and that there were many proposals that we thought were of very high quality. |
