Improve landing page

Some pages are really nice by now, but the landing page is not really eye-catching.

I suggest we use some brainstorming about what to put on the first page that each user sees.
It would definitely make sense to put some basic description / about, some links etc. (but it also depends how the site would be integrated with the rest).

One idea could be to add a link to webapp Github repository for anyone who wants to contribute. Something like Fork me on Github ribbon on the top right.

I agree it could make sense to have a pointer to a document explaining how to contribute and having further pointers to developer documentation. The app could simply link to that (markdown?) document on GitHub, and the potential developers would already end up "on the right page" if they want to clone, fork, submit PRs etc.
