Using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, we can support the work of employees in the cantonal administration and provide better services for the public. We view AI as one of many tools for digital transformation.
Team Data of the Statistical Office of the Canton of Zurich operates as a competence center for data science. Among other things, we work on AI pilot projects for the cantonal administration. The basis for our work is RRB 1331/2022 («... provides the other strategic initiatives with knowledge and skills relating to data and AI. ...»), action area E4 of the Strategic Initiative Data («Machine Learning Pilot Projects»), and the measures to achieve the legislative goals («Expand the competent and prudent use of artificial intelligence in administration and promote the exchange of knowledge in this area.»).
With our pilot projects, we aim to find out whether AI and machine learning can be a solution to certain problems. Together with our partners in the cantonal administration, we develop prototypes and proof of concepts and thus validate possible solutions. Here we describe more about how the canton deals and works with AI.
We share experiences, code, and data from our pilot projects here on GitHub as far as possible. We are very interested in feedback - please send them via email or open issues/PRs in the respective repositories.
