A point about Ruby on Rails

Many of my friends complain about using Ruby on Rails because they always run into so many problems using it. At first, I listened to them patiently vent, but now I always ask them what it is they are trying to build. Many of these complaints come about because they are trying to use Ruby on Rails for a very small, simple application that wouldn’t ever need something so robust. Knowing that they are only building a small application, they try to remove too many elements of RoR and end up breaking their application.

So here are some good instances, not to use RoR. First, if the application is not a Web Application, this is the wrong framework for you. Next, if the application is pretty much all client-side, you can get by with something simpler like AngularJS. You should also consider the rate of deployment, and potentially the project payment scheme. Since RoR allows very rapid development, it is great for a fixed price project but not so much for a team trying to develop slowly. Also, it’s worth noting that trying to start using RoR for existing code and DB can be very difficult if RoR wasn’t in mind from the very beginning.
