Hi, I see other issues that seem close but different from this issue that I am experiencing on Atom 1.26 on both Mac and Ubuntu. When I create a new file and attempt to save it with :w the first time, it seems to hang/crash (Mac) when the dialogue box opens, or on the Ubuntu it finishes saving, but in both cases the file name still says untitled in the tab. When I then try to save again, I can see that the file with the original name I typed in the dialogue box has been created in the file system but the file I am working in has not been associated with that and isn't able to save unless I manually select and save over the blank file.

I believe the command you want in this case is actually :saveas <filename> with the filename. The behavior for :w is a bit more convoluted, though I agree that it should match the behavior of :saveas.
