Risks to uses astOS is this project is abandoned

Hi !

I don't see any updates since more than one year, and I've also noticed that the main developer finally uses on his Desktop another immutable OS ( https://github.com/lambdanil/microos-guix ).

So, may be this project is abandoned ?

In all cases, could you tell us the impact for people that uses astOS if the project is abandoned, there is some risks or missing security updates ?

There should be no security risks to continuing to use astOS - it relies only on standard Arch repositories. However I can't currently guarantee I will fix bugs in astOS related parts the system if any were to appear - though it seems stable as it is now.

Personally I recommend the AshOS project as an alternative, it was originally a fork (and later a rewrite) of astOS but has since superseded it as I mostly abandoned astOS development. If I were to come back (which is a possibility) I'd likely contribute to AshOS instead as it seems to have moved along nicely.

Gave AshOS a shot as mentioned, but not quite what I'm looking for due to its complexity and niche nature. Ended up moving back to just vanilla Arch + configs, scripts, and manifests stored in git for a "good-enough" level of reproducibility. Lol, I've moved around the ecosystem with NixOS, Guix, MicroOS, Firecracker, and others and keep coming back to Arch. Maybe once something in the immutable ecosystem gets a little bit easier I will hop to that! I think NixOS with a more friendly programming language (perhaps leveraging popular languages like Pulumi does for infra) is where I'll eventually end up, but that's the nice thing about this space -- pick what you like!
