What Happened?

as reported by Yevhenii Dytyniuk in slack thread: https://kubernetes.slack.com/archives/C1F5CT6Q1/p1639259539285100?thread_ts=1639259222.284200&cid=C1F5CT6Q1, and acknowledged upstream: kubernetes/ingress-nginx#7810
