How is this going? Is this still a major 1.0 feature or should this be demoted to 1.1 or a future release? I'm trying to get a "feature freeze" in place for 1.0 so we know where to focus our immediate efforts. :)

This has not moved forward. It is not essential towards a 1.0 release. Are we working towards alternative ways of installation?

Thanks Ben, sounds good. Yes, we're currently whipping up an "install script." Like you said earlier, it would be good to leverage the dependency and version management infrastructure in conda-forge, but we can save that for a 1.1.
