I'm new to ELK / ELKjs, but wondering if there's any way to force nodes to be on the same level without actually specifying the level number in a layered layout.
Essentially, I want to make sure nodes a,b,c are on the same level, but don't care which level the algorithm assigns to them.

Currently this is possible using partition or via interactive layout strategies. Try to have a look at the examples on elklive. Both do require setting some kind of number but it does not always have to be the correct one since layers can be skipped. With Elk 0.9.0 it will be possible to specify such constraints by the ordering in the parent node.
