How to Use:

In order to make use of the example audio files (i.e. up to twelve example words for each kanji, pronounced by male and female native Japanese speakers) you will need to match the kanji character you are looking for (e.g. 述) with the unique, romanized prefix we assigned to its media files, e.g. jutsu-no(beru).

In the case of the audio files in this directory, the filenames were additionally marked (in alphabetical order) with the suffix 'a' to 'l' to match them to their respective readings.

You can match a kanji to its unique, romanized prefix by consulting the ka_data.xlsx (or ka_data.csv) spreadsheet in the language-data directory.

Example:

You are interested in the audio files for the kanji 述. Look-up 述 in ka_data.xlsx. You will find (in column J) that we provide 10 example words and therefore ten audio files for this kanji:

  • 述語 (じゅつご)
  • 著述家 (ちょじゅつか)
  • 述懐する (じゅっかいする)
  • 供述する (きょうじゅつする)
  • 陳述する (ちんじゅつする)
  • 詳述する (しょうじゅつする)
  • 記述する (きじゅつする)
  • 口述する (こうじゅつする)
  • 上述する (じょうじゅつする)
  • 述べる (のべる)

In column A of the same spreadsheet you'll find the unique, romanized prefix for this kanji, "jutsu-no(beru)". Now you can identify the ten audio files matching the example words shown above:

  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_a.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_b.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_c.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_d.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_e.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_f.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_g.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_h.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_i.aac
  • jutsu-no(beru)_06_j.aac
