The Telegard 3.0+ Protocol Pack Release 1.1 (April 13, 1997) Compiled by Jon Parise [Yankee] ÚÄ--Introduction ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ--ú ú ú A few months ago I got into a protocol kick where I wanted to evaluate all those protocols that everyone talks about but hardly ever use. If you're a SysOp, you probably have all the oldies-but-goodies protocols setup, such as Xmodem, Ymodem, and Zmodem, with the occasional variation. You're also probably using a copy of DSZ or GSZ as your protocol driver because Telegard includes them in its default configuration. In addition to these common transfer protocols, there are numerous other protocol drivers out there. Some have a specific niche while others are simply overhauled versions of DSZ/GSZ. The purpose of The Telegard Protocol Pack is to save Telegard SysOp's some time in evaluating a protocol's abilities and then getting the damn thing to work right by setting it up, calling remotely, testing, and debugging. I have been there before, and I'm sure most of you have, too. A SysOp's time can better be spent elsewhere. ÚÄ--Disclaimer ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ--ú ú ú There are no warranties or guarantees to be found here. If it doesn't work for you, there isn't anyone for you to blame. ÚÄ--Installation ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ--ú ú ú All protocol settings are released as .PDF's, Telegard's protocol definition file format. Move all the .PDF's in this archive into your Telegard data directory (i.e. \Telegard\Data) To import these settings into your configuration, go to the System Manager->Protocol Manager and insert a new protocol using whatever command letter you like. Hit '!' and then 'I'mport a protocol definition file. Enter the name of the .PDF you would like to import, select the protocol, and you're all configured. The next step is to install the actual file transfer protocol. That procedure is currently beyond the scope of this document but, basically, locate the protocol driver and install it into you \Telegard\Protocol directory, where Telegard will look for it. ÚÄ--Included Protocols ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ--ú ú ú CEXYZ.PDF Cutting Edge File Transfer Protocol Xmodem, Ymodem, Ymodem-G, Zmodem, ZedZap Contributed by: Jon Parise PDZ.PDF Public Domain Zmodem with Chat Zmodem, ZedZap Contributed by: mav@microserve.net HYDRACOM.PDF HydraCom Bidirectonal Transfer Protocol with Chat HydraCom Contributed by: Jon Parise SMODEM.PDF Smodem Bidirectional Transfer Protocol with Chat Smodem Contributed by: Jon Parise Originally posted in TG_SUPPORT (Fido) HSLINK.PDF HS/Link Bidirectional Transfer Protocol HS/Link Contributed by: Darryl Clarke ICEZ.PDF IceZmodem with Chat, Dos, Editor, Games, Music Zmodem Contributed by: Darryl Clarke VMODEM.MDF Vmodem (Virtual Modem) Telnet Protocol Driver Not exactly a transfer protocol, but included nonetheless Contributed by: Jon Parise Originally by: Michael Thorndyke ÚÄ--Protocol Notes ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ--ú ú ú CE-XYZ ~~~~~~ CE-XYZ is available in Dos and OS/2 flavours. The included .PDF supports the Dos version but the OS/2 version shouldn't be very much different (cexyz2.exe instead of cexyz.exe, I believe) PDZmodem ~~~~~~~~ This protocol definition includes the '-os2' parameter for OS/2 optimized file transfers. This can be changed to '-dv' for enhanced performance under DesqView. Vmodem ~~~~~~ Vmodem is distributed with Ray Gwinn's SIO serial comm drivers for OS/2. It is used to emulate a 'virtual' modem port for telnet connections using OS/2's TCP/IP stack.
