The problem is that, as far as I know, there is currently no standard way of verifying the integrity of these applications.

The documentation page says otherwise. There do exist mechanisms for verifying the integrity of the app being executed, although, the page doesn't mention anything regarding linux but we can always use hashing in that case, can't we?
