I have no typescript in my project. I am surprised there is this issue. Why does everyone require or have some dependencies on the typescript eslint? If you wanted typescript linting, you would use typescript eslint. if you wanted jest linting, you would use jest eslint.

So this is just my misunderstanding, but why is typescript eslint required here? If you wanted to provide additional linting that required typescript for some reason, wouldn't you use the typescript-parser? forgive my ignorance

So this is just my misunderstanding, but why is typescript eslint required here?

As a direct dependency, we're using some utilities that are maintained by the @typescript-eslint team; this is different from those wanting TypeScript linting and does not conflict with them - it's the same as if we were depending on dependencies like is-number or chalk; we would want these kind of utilities anyway so by reusing them via this dependency deduplicates some code.

That tends to cause confusion though because when @typescript-eslint blocks an update people do npm ls @typescript-eslint, see we have a dependency, and assume we're the problem when actually we're not.

Note we do have an optional peer dependency on @typescript-eslint/eslint-plugin as we extend one of their rules, but you can only use that rule if you're linting TypeScript anyway so also does not impact anyone not using TypeScript.
