For the past few months, we've intended to find a more appropriate logo and icon that better fits our intended use case for the app.
Although we loved the current/previous smiling character, we don't think it's a great fit.
I'm going to share the new candidate for our logo and icon and how we arrived at it. You can write your feeling about it in the discussion.
The goals for the icon/logo:
It should feel relevant to our name
It should render well as a simple SVG logo mark without gradients, colors, shadows, etc
It shouldn't look similar to every other chat app (e.g., plain chat bubble)
What does this icon mean?
Depending on how you look at it I think one can feel one or a few of the items below:
I have always liked the tilde symbol ~ as it refers to the user's home in the macOS/Linux environments.
The three tildes/wavy lines feel relevant to the name Inline.
The parallel lines can refer to how conversation flows seamlessly in different threads.
The minimal waves feel relevant to the fast and lightweight vibe of the apps.
The perfect alignment can be interpreted as how Inline helps your team be on the same page.
The lines can be interpreted as three messages within a chat thread.
