Hypothes.is is one part public service and one part Open Source project.

Public Service

Thousands of people are creating meaningful annotation content via the Hypothes.is browser extension, web site embedding, and on partner web sites.

Public annotations on Hypothes.is are licensed under the CC0 licence (aka Public Domain). This rich dataset is available via the Hypothes.is HTTP API.

Open Source

The code that runs the public service is available under the BSD-2-Clause license. If you have an interest in the future of web annotation, please join us!
