Hit and Run Badminton Club and Broken Strings Badminton are pleased
to announce their joint Badminton Tournament for 2024. We will feature 3
categories across the badminton disciplines (MD, WD, XD, WS, MS) over 2 days,
from 7 to 8 September 2024. Cash prizes and trophies await the winners of each category.

We are implementing cheaper registration for those sending in their entry on or before
31 July, at £20 per person. This will go up to £25 per person after that date.
So, sign up now to one of London's largest badminton tournaments!

<b>Entries must be made on the official TOURNAMENT FORM</b>

- You will receive a system generated email once you registered
with your own reference number, but your spot is not reserved at
this stage. It will be only reserved once we received payments
from both you and your partner, quoting reference provided to you
on first Email - you will receive another system generated email
confirming your spot. Therefore if you have paid but your partner
has not, we will not confirm receipt. In this case, please do
liaise with your partner.

<h2>Categories</h2>

Players shall self-declare their categories based on the below criteria.
Should there be any questions regarding their category corroborated by evidence of
fulfilling criteria as stipulated below, the organisers shall reserve the right to
re-classify the players/pair, which will result in being allocated to a different category
(if there are available spots) or in being removed from the competition (if there are no more available spots).

The criteria follow a hierarchy: In order to qualify for a category,
the player should not qualify for any of the higher level categories

Our competition also values bringing higher level players together with lower level players
to enhance the experience of lower level players.

Players may register above their level but may not register below their level
</div>

<h5>Grade Definitions</h5>

<h6>A: Advanced Category Players</h6>
<div>
Advanced players fulfill any one of the following criteria:
</div>

Current or previous national player, including masters tournaments
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
At least a quarterfinalist of a BE gold or silver tournament
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Winner of a BE Bronze tournament
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Currently first Team of their county
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Division 1 or 2 of the Middlesex League or equivalent in local league
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Previous winners of the B category (High intermediate) of any tournament
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Other indicators of advanced status from other countries/contexts
</li>

<h6>B: High Intermediate Category Players</h6>

High Intermediate players fulfill any one of the following criteria:
</div>

Does not fulfill any of the criteria in the advanced category
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Reached the quarterfinals or semifinals of BE Bronze tournaments
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Reached at least the quarterfinals of BE Tier 4/Copper tournaments
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Second to fifth team of their county
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
University team members from BUCS
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Division 3 to 5 of the Middlesex League or equivalent in local league
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Previous winners of the C category (social) of any tournament
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Other indicators of high intermediate status from other countries/contexts

<h6>C: Social Category Players</h6>
<div>
Social category players are those who do not fulfill any of the criteria of the advanced or high intermediate categories.
</div>

<h5>Registration Based Category</h5>
<ul>
<li class="margin-top-12">
For the Advanced paired categories (MD A, WD A, XD A): Only 1 player of the pair
is allowed to meet the criterion of “national” player (i.e. current or previous
national player) or at least a quarterfinalist of a BE gold or silver tournament.
The second player should not also be a national player or at least a quarterfinalist
of a BE gold or silver tournament.

<li class="margin-top-12">
For all other paired events in all categories: The whole pair shall be categorised according
to the higher-level player even if only one member of the pair meets that criterion.
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Note that players may register for categories above their level but are not allowed to
register for categories below their level.

<h2>Game Formats</h2>

<h5>Group Stage</h5>
<ul>
<li class="margin-top-12">
All categories will run a group stage where each team/individual within
the group will go up against all the members of their group in round robin fashion.
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Groups shall be determined by random number.
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
During the group stage, the game format to be used shall be 1 game to 21, unless otherwise specified.
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Where participants are called to their match, they shall be given 2 minutes to turn up for their matches.
If 2 minutes has passed and one side is not available to play, then the side that is present is declared
to have won the match with a maximum score line to 0 points for the side that was absent.
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
The whole pool of participants of the category will be ranked based on wins, points, and point differences.
Should there be ties after all these factors are accounted for, the participants with the higher random number
shall go through.
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
The number of pairs going to the eliminations shall depend on the elimination rounds they start at but will be
subject to change by the organisers based on schedule and court availability. Rough guide as follows:
<ul>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Round of 32: 32 individuals/pairs will go through from groups
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Octofinals: 16 individuals/pairs will go through from group
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Quarterfinals: 8 individuals/pairs will go through from groups
</li>
</ul>

<h5>Elimination Rounds</h5>
<ul>
<li class="margin-top-12">
During the elimination round, only the winners shall advance to the next round, up to the Semifinals.
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Winners of the semifinals shall proceed to the Final to contest the first and second places of the category.
Losers of the semifinals shall proceed to the Bronze match to contest the third place of the category.
</li>
<li class="margin-top-12">
Unless otherwise specified, the elimination rounds will be run at 1 game to 21 points, with setting.
The format may be changed according to time and court availability.

For the advanced categories, the format used from quarterfinals onwards will be the best of 3 games to 21 format
