lsp versus omni completion

Hello, just trying to understand in https://github.com/girishji/vimcomplete#lsp-Completion how this compares to using omni completion with LSP as &omnifunc as described in :help lsp-opt-omniComplete ?

async vs sync. I added some modification to lsp client where this function can be used async. If you use it as omnifunc directly it will not be async, but through this plugin it is async.

I'm considering ending active maintenance of this plugin. Recently, I’ve been contributing new features directly to Vim's source code to improve its built-in auto-completion capabilities. These changes focus on enabling completion from user-defined functions, prioritizing relevant matches, and allowing match limits for specific completion sources.

You can follow the progress in these (unmerged) pull requests:

• Feature: Add support for function-based completion in 'complete' option vim/vim#17065
• Feature: Add proximity-based sorting of completion matches vim/vim#17076
• Feature: Add per-source match limit support to 'complete' option vim/vim#17087

With these enhancements to Vim itself, this plugin may no longer be necessary—or at most, a minimal plugin might suffice to provide a few completion functions. Hopefully, the overall completion experience in Vim will be significantly improved as a result.

Did these have mainly LSP and abbreviation autocompletion in mind, as in the function-based PR examples? How would these be best complemented by the new settings in the two other PRs?

The task is not done yet. I have to write a tutorial for this issue, with some more examples (taken from this plugin).
