I use grav on localhost and have often issues during train rides. The access to fonts.googleapis.com does often not work or delays the delivery of the pages.

In my opinion, the fonts should be embedded to improve performance and anonymization.

A good documentation can be found here: https://www.keycdn.com/blog/google-fonts-cdn/

Maybe it's best to embedded the functions in core, so the improvement is available for all themes. But the problem exists actually in the standard theme.

What's your opinion?

PR welcome to include the font in the theme 👍

I tried to follow this but I seem to have just inlined them...

I think this should be the solution - the font is delivered from the website where grav is installed.

The performance will be better and the dependency of a second (font) server which must be available is gone.

@flaviocopes What do you think of their solution? Possibly on the agenda or nah?

Is there any update on this issue?
Because the EU–US Privacy Shield has been declared invalid, the communication between EU and "third parties" outside of the EU is a difficult issue.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) does not allow it. So its a very very grey area.

Hi there,
it is really a very serious problem in Germany. Corrupt lawyers have discovered a new money charging machine because of "illegal" google fonts. It should be integrated locally ASAP
