Possible git ignore additions?

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Not necessarily a feature request or a problem - the answer to this may just be "learn git better". If someone has edited files and then pulls a new version of newserv, they would get overwritten unless they are included in git ignore, no?

Would it make sense to add files that (I'm assuming) are unlikely to be changed—such as item and level tables—to git ignore?

The .gitignore file should generally only be used for files that are e.g. generated during the build process and aren't necessary to build and run the project from source. In this case, those files are necessary at runtime and cannot be generated from source.

I think what you want to do is make a commit with your changes on top of master, but don't push it. Then when you pull master, your changes will be automatically merged or rebased on top of the new master branch. Unless there's a conflict (which you would have to resolve manually), this will preserve your changes and also allow you to keep up to date with master.
