Would generic S3 support be on the roadmap? Would mean support for a wide-range of vendors

You can probably use the forked KoboCloud-rclone to achieve this ... https://github.com/marklar423/KoboCloud-rclone

Rclone supports S3 as storage backend: https://rclone.org/s3/
