I would like to see Firetray is running on Plasma 5. Is there some work on it to support that feature? Or are there plans to support it in the near future? It is very annoying to work without Firetray.

Hi, there is already minimal support for KDE Plasma 5 (see #130). So FireTray should be running in this environment. BTW check v0.6.0 if you encounter issue with v0.5 versions.

Now this support could be improved (...see related issues, like replacing libappindicator).
But (1) I don't know frankly when I'll be able to work on it, (2) Mozilla addons and tray icons do not have a bright future (I'll comment on this on the wiki when I get a chance)... This is the best I can say for now.

I'll close this issue. I'd suggest to create a new one if you have a more specific issue.

I tested the 0.6 version and there is no tray icon. If I minimize FF or TB then the task will be removed from taskbar but I cant get to the foreground due to lack of icon...

Ok, then you probably have a dependency missing. Does the JS-Console (Ctrl-Shift-J) have ERRORS ?

I am using your FireTray 0.6.0 add-on with Thunderbird 41.0a1 and it works partially (or not) for me. The icon is show in this case although (and I do not know if it should, but...) the counter of unread messages is not shown. That is, what it is stated in the README.md file "display unread message count in tray icon" does not seem to be working.

Ok, I've got FF and TB running with tray icon on Fedora 22 under Plasma 5. I needed to install the libappindicator for GTK2 and GTK3. But the left mouse button seems not working. That's a bit annoying.

Much better. Any hope for left clicks?

Mine same as for @taghoter, I think. Tray icon exists, but show no number while unread messages present.
Fedora 23 x64, TB 38.0.3, KDE 5 and this:
libappindicator-12.10.0-10.fc23.x86_64
libappindicator-gtk3-12.10.0-10.fc23.x86_64

For thunderbird and unread messages count issue on Plasma 5, I did a brutal patch - https://github.com/michal-karpinski/FireTray

It's not nice, but it seems to work.

Not very elegant, but after all the tray icon could not hold more than two digits, so there's no functional difference.

I salute your creativity!:)

@luigino
Have not tried this patch, but for my case there are no numbers at all.
Fedora 23 x64, TB 38, FT 0.6, libappindicator installed.

@ohhai
That's the very problem this is supposed to fix.

If you look at the pull request diff, you will notice that image files for the numbers from 1 to 99 have been embedded.

Has someone tested michal-karpinski's patch on openSUSE? I couldn't make it work.
