CTD Upon Launch

AudioAnchor insta-crashes upon launch after 2.4.0 upgrade via F-Droid. Restarting the phone and clearing the cache don't seem to help. I don't want to do a fresh install at the risk of losing all of the progress I have as my last backup is a few weeks old.

Clearing the app data "fixed" the crashing, but now it won't show album art on the home page. I downgraded to 2.3.3 for the meantime to restore that functionality.

I also hit this.

After clearing data, the new version can't see my SD card, only the internal storage. Neither can the 2.3.3 or 2.3.2. 😬 I think I must've installed and configured AudioAnchor one or more major Android version updates ago, and Google's war on user access to the filesystem has developed not necessarily in our favor. My old configuration was probably grandfathered in.

I did check that setting, but toggling didn't seem to change anything.

Thanks for reporting this. Can you please check which permissions AudioAnchor was granted, and particularly whether it was granted full access to images or restricted access only? If the latter is the case, please enable full access and see if that changes anything.

1. Exported database from 2.3.3.
2. Updated to 2.4.0 again.
3. Immedate CTD on launch, as described by issue title.
4. Clear cache -- does not resolve CTD.
5. Clear data -- now launches without crashing.
6. Add /storage/emulated/0/Podcasts, "directories containing audio files".
7. Pull to refresh and relaunch several times as AA has trouble scanning entire library without crashing (also present in 2.3.3).
8. Most subdir's album art is not getting picked up, but some is. Pattern:

• folder.jpg: not shown
• folder.png: shown
• NA - $channel_name - Videos.jpg: shown

9. Rename one of the folder.jpg to xfolder.jpg. It is now shown. (This seems highly suggestive of the culprit.)

My device is Android 12. According to Google, READ_MEDIA_IMAGES and _AUDIO were introduced in 13, and that is why they appear in the Requested permission list but not the Runtime list.

I have again uninstalled, reinstalled version 2.3.3, disable auto-update, and imported the database backup. Rolling back is kind of a hassle, so hopefully I have collected enough information to identify the bug.

I also experience a similar issue on Android 13. Although, I have not yet tried to downgrade.

I experienced CTDs, too.

In my case it was caused by AudioAnchor not having the privilege to access the folders. The exception thrown is literally an invalid argument "file does not exist" error. I should still have a few crashes logged, in case anyone wants to look at them.

Previously, you could add folders outside the obvious trees (e.g. not under Music, Audiobooks, etc) and now this has become functionally impossible.

I did something (don't remember what because I had little time to figure out the issue) and the CTDs at launch went away, now those folders can still be added to the library, but they should show up empty, same as the ones that are still in the library.

I imagine this is a deliberate change, however it does create a problematic situation on the user's end not just for the CTDs but because progress will be lost unless the user can fix the database manually.
