🐛 [app_check] Use App check for Android (Play Integrity) in Firebase App Distribution

What feature would you like to see?

Currently unable to use App Check with Android AAB files in Firebase App Distribution. Despite adding test and release certificate fingerprints, it's not working. Firebase docs lack information about this. Can this be supported?

Hi @dario-digregorio, thanks for the report. Based on my research, it looks like this would only work when your app is distributed by Google Play. Is that the case for your app?

Yes my app is also distributed with Google Play and App Check also works with that version. Only when downloading the app from App Tester it is not working.

@dario-digregorio - is this a feature request? As far as the documentation is concerned and based on user reports, it appears it won't work if distributed from anywhere but the Play Store.

There's not much we can do from FlutterFire, you might want to double check with Firebase support that it has to be distributed from the Play Store, but this type of feature request isn't going to be implemented on FlutterFire because it is just a wrapper around the native SDKs. I don't think it would even be a feature request on the firebase-android-sdk as it seems to me to be an infrastructure problem (i.e. Firebase server).

You might want to create a feature request here if it is possible at all to have play integrity provider used outside of the Play Store.

I distribute my app over Play Store. But I agree that this issue does not belong to FlutterFire and will ask the Firebase support. Thanks!
