Reset (database)

I’ve been having issues with most posts not showing up. I tried to do the reset thing on the dashboard manually for all the people I follow, but only a few more seem to be coming through now.

Is there like a full reset I can do somehow, like deleting the database and start over?

Important

Before resetting the database, you must delete your account(s) from the dashboard. This is crucial because:

• Deleting an account through the dashboard properly sends a Delete(Person) activity to all federated servers
• This notifies other instances that your account has been deleted
• If you just drop the database without doing this, other servers will still think your account exists, which can cause federation issues

Steps to reset

1. Delete your account(s)

   • Go to your Hollo dashboard
   • Delete all accounts you've created
   • Wait for the deletion to complete (this ensures Delete(Person) activities are sent to other servers)

2. Stop the Hollo server (e.g., Ctrl+C running in terminal)

3. Drop the database

   Connect to your PostgreSQL database and drop all tables:

   # Connect to PostgreSQL
   psql $DATABASE_URL

   # Drop the public schema (this removes all tables)
   DROP SCHEMA public CASCADE;
   CREATE SCHEMA public;

4. Run migrations

   Hollo will automatically recreate all tables when you start it:

   pnpm run prod
   # or
   pnpm run dev

   The migrations will run automatically as part of the startup process (see package.json scripts).

5. Set up a new account

   • Follow the initial setup process again
   • Create a new account through the dashboard
