I’ve put together a new InkyPi plugin that turns a shared Google Photos album into a simple, configurable photo frame on your InkyPi!

Details

The plugin reads the shared Google Photos album page, parses the embedded data to find image entries, and picks one photo to render for each refresh.

It adjusts the image URL to request a size that matches your display resolution, so you get a clean result without pulling down unnecessary pixels. If your InkyPi device is set to vertical orientation, the plugin swaps width and height when requesting the image so it fills the screen properly.

• Photo selection mode (random / newest / oldest)
• Image fit mode (fill / contain)
• Background color (white / black)
• Show or hide caption bar
• Caption content mode (album label / ID / timestamps)
• Show or hide border
• Border size in pixels
• Auto contrast on/off
• Network timeout in milliseconds

Notes

• Requires an album that is shared via a link (anyone with the link can view)
• Very large albums can take longer to parse on first load
• Videos in the album are ignored; this is focused on photos
• If Google changes the shared album layout, the parser may need an update
