would be really nice to be able to npm install a version of the spec to use in https://github.com/MetaMask/api-specs for example, instead of having to fetch a hash off the raw github url to lock the version

Is this something that is still desired? I would be open to a PR implementing this, but it's not a major priority for us right now to also maintain an npm package of the spec.
