Abel Tasman

Abel Tasman was a Dutch explorer employed by the Dutch East India Company to find the mythical "Southern Continent" or Terra Australis, a gigantic land mass expected to cover 1/5th of the world, which was assumed to be required to keep the Earth in balance.
