Your use case

What would you like to do?

When opening the right panel it should always start on the top-level menu.

Why would you like to do it?

Currently the panel opens up wherever you were when you last had it open in the room, e.g. the member list or some user's profile.

This is likely subjective but I'm personally finding the current behavior quite inconvenient. I usually close the right panel when I'm done with it. When I'm using it the next time, I usually want to do something entirely different than the last time. So being dropped somewhere deep into the hierarchy usually isn't helpful to me.

The problem is aggravated by the fact that the search button in the top left corner of the right panel is only available on the top level.

How would you like to achieve it?

Don't store state after the panel was closed.

Have you considered any alternatives?

Other than leaving it as is, there are none that I can think of right now.
