Description
Is your suggestion related to a problem? Please describe.
I was pondering whether I can make our team to migrate from Google Hangouts to Matrix/Riot, and one problem I found is that it is very hard to even start a voice conference. Riot features the following:
Riot provides one touch voice and video calls and conferences on all platforms. On mobile, respond to calls as natively as you do a normal phone call.
During a conference, you can also share a link to it with other users, allowing them to join via their browser, even if they're not a Riot user.
So I started searching for it. I guessed that I need to create a room, and sure enough, there is a "call" icon, which I pressed. And then I got an error:
you can't call yourself
What? Why can't I: I want to share a link that other people can use then.
Well okay, I asked someone else to join the room, and we started a conference. But there was still no way to share the conference.
Now I was out of ideas, so I asked on #riot-web:matrix.org
, and as it turns out, to share a conference you need either to 1. have at least 3 people in a room, or 2. put a gigantic glitchy Jitsi widget from "intergrations" menu.
Describe the solution you'd like
In a group, when one clicks a "call" icon, ask whether they want to start a conference or one-to-one call.
Note: one-to-one call being default makes sense in private communication with someone. But it's mostly useless and confusing when you are in a group instead.
