Unread badge/counts without push/notify

Discord has the option to highlight a channel when new messages come in without causing a notification. This would be nice on Riot.

Something like this:

with no audio or push notification.

Enabling notifications and dealing with a beep every time someone sends a message.

Just set the room to mentions only and it'll go Bold when there are messages to be read

That only works for... mentions.

The rooms in my example are Bold yet I have no mentions in them. If I was to get a mention they would get a red badge next to them to indicate the mention.

The Room List and unread notifications are being reworked such that you will even be able to get the number of unread notifications, and it'll be clearer with a dot. This work is ongoing.
