I believe I have hit the same bug. I enter my me-only room that I use for storing links etc., and there is no input box. I am unable to send any messages.

Attempted fixes:

  • Reinstalled application (box was back, then went away again)
  • "Upgraded" the room (did not help)

Version 1.5.28, olm version 3.2.12. Installed from F-Droid.

Let me know if there is any further information I can provide.

  1. Can you add emoji reactions to messages already in the room?
  2. Can you send messages in the room via Element-web?

The same here :(
example
Happened when I was editing a large message.
No emojis, but I can send messages in the chat from my element on PC.

I confirm I am having the same issue. It occurs only on Element-Android (i.e., no issues on iOS, Web, or Desktop versions). The issue occurs only in private room to self (my "Note to Self") room. I think the issue started occurring after the Android update from approximately two (2) weeks ago.

Issue is as stated above, no input box appears at bottom of screen to enter text.

It's funny. I sent an image to the room via web browser. Now, when I enter the room on Android the input is invisible but when I touch the image to view it full-screen, the input appears and stays visible after I dismiss the image viewer.

EDIT: It gets better! When I touch the input box, the cursor and the keyboard appear. When I start typing, the input disappears, but I can still type. When I press [⤶] the message gets sent (as configured) and I can type another one.

I updated from v1.4.x to v1.6.2 yesterday, and bam it broke.

Any update?

I eventually ended up deleting my "Note to Self" private room and then creating a new one, and this solved the problem, i.e., now the input box is back. Unfortunately, I lost my notes in the old room but at least it resolved the problem.

That is really not a good solution for me :(

I want a working app back again 😭

I wish I could find an alternative messenger :(

Are developers looking into this?

Thanks for the tip. It is not convenient but at least I can use my room to self without recreating one and wait for proper resolution. I already sent a rage shake some weeks ago.

The workaround does not do the trick for me.
Please do something about that issue.

@darkmattercoder FYI it doesn't always work for me neither. Sometimes I need to open and close an image a few times.

As a workaround you can convert the room type:
/converttoroom
as this bug only occurs for direct message room type.

I suggest to set this one as duplicate of #8631 because #8631 has a better description.
