Wider layout.. limited or full width?

We want to make the layout of our docs wider.

We have two approaches for this.

Option 1: Use the full width of the browser

This approach utilizes the full width of the browser.

Option 2: Use a max width of 1920px

This approach utilizes a max width of 1920px (Common Full HD resolution width) but uses the full width until that breakpoint.

Note

The PoC actually uses a max width of 1800px. This will be fixed later.

I'm team #max-width!

On my 4k monitor it becomes super awkward having to move the mouse all the way to the left to navigate the site content tree.

Small improvements for the max width:

• Use same margin in between left nav <margin> content <margin> on this page
• Align reference and contact sales to the right border of on this page.

Regarding the margins between sidebars and content:

Upon getting to a page we look towards the center, and having too much of a blank space between actions we can perform and content feels like we have less of both more than when that empty is at the edges. Max-widthy here too.

I feel like we need "more" to justify full-width, at least with the design we have.

@theletterf mentioned we could have something in the background at the edges. Something soft we can play around with can go a long way into both taking away the feeling of emptiness and bringing more life to the pages. We can also use that to coordinate with branding as needs arise.

There is strange loading behavior with the full width.

Since the max width achieves our goal, I'm changing my mind and joining team #max-width.

Is the intent for the body to widen to fill the space? will On this page end up right justified?

In the current state, the markdown content and the "on this page" navigation are treated as a single unit. Hence, they are kind of centered within the space between the "left pages navigation" and the right screen.
