Feature Description:

Currently when new terminal instances are opened in the same widget they are displayed as tabs along the top of that widget. My proposal is to have a side bar where the terminal instances are displayed, see the image for an example.

Having this kind of improvement would make a few features that we have adopted from vscode work a lot better, see for example #12597.
