The online tester at https://uri-template-tester.herokuapp.com/ doesn't trim strings so if you accidentally add a space in front of the template, you get a disconcerting:

" https://lg.op.example/.well-known/looking-glass/v1/ping/{host}" is not a valid URI template (RFC6570).
