Also, I see that sdk 8.0.200 is out. It was my understanding that there will be a tag under dotnet/dotnet that will be made available. Is this still the case?

Source build in still only supported in the 100 feature band of the SDK. Support for multiple feature bands is planned in the .NET 9 timeframe.

According to this post it was said the VMR would have 8.0.2xx branches as well, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

That post was just a request for feedback and doesn't represent the current product plan. You can find the current roadmap at .NET Unified Build (view). Specifically, support for multiple SDK bands is planned for later this year. This would only apply to .NET 9 and higher.

I came to check on this now that 9.0.2xx has been released, but it looks like the issue has been moved to dotnet 10? :(
