Alpine 3.20 images now available

Alpine 3.20 container images have been released for all in-support and preview .NET versions.

The following repos have been updated:

• dotnet/sdk - Microsoft Artifact Registry
• dotnet/aspnet - Microsoft Artifact Registry
• dotnet/runtime - Microsoft Artifact Registry
• dotnet/runtime-deps - Microsoft Artifact Registry

Details

Alpine 3.20 is available via fixed-version tags (e.g. 8.0-alpine3.20) for in-support .NET versions.

As stated in the supported tag policy, Alpine floating tags for .NET 6.0 and 8.0 (e.g. 8.0-alpine) will continue to reference Alpine 3.19 until the next servicing release in July 2024.

At that time, the Alpine floating tags will be updated to reference Alpine 3.20.

AFAIK all alpine base images are affected by some libcrypto3, libssl3 vulnerability:

alpine 3.20.1 is already here is there a plan to add .. there are a few medium busybox vulnerabilities fixes on it

There is a reported issue on CA cert validation on alpine 3.20
fix is already in 3.20.5
any chance we can get new images based on 3.20.5 ASAP ?

It looks like the alpine base images have been updated, so we should have new .NET images out by the end of the day. Our automated system will take care of the image re-builds.

You can query the image directly:

To set future expectation of updates, see the image update policy:

Images are re-built within 12 hours of any updates to their base images

Alpine3.20 introduce an error with python pip.
error: invalid command 'bdist_wheel' installing wheel does nothing.

We don't change anything regarding python or pip in the .NET images, so any changes you noticed have come directly from the alpine:3.20 base image.
