Welcome to the AI + Design Fundamentals Workshop, a 3-day hands-on experience using Replicate to explore generative models and build interactive visual prototypes. You’ll learn how to use state-of-the-art models (image, text, audio, and video), structure prompts for design outcomes, integrate models into small tools, and ship lightweight prototypes.
Target Audience: Art and design students (graphic, UX, product design)
Duration: 2 days
Group Size: 10-15 students
Focus: Hands-on practical creation with gamification elements
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Generate high-quality images, audio, and video using AI models
- Understand prompt engineering techniques for better results
- Chain multiple AI models to create complex creative workflows
- Integrate AI tools into their existing design processes
- Evaluate and select appropriate AI models for different creative tasks
- 🧠 Zero‑tech: browser‑only Replicate model pages (no installs, no keys)
- 🔗 Chaining: download from model A → upload into model B
- 🖼️🎵🎞️ Modalities: images, short audio loops, very short video clips
- 🎮 Playful format: Artistic Telephone (class‑wide) + Prompt Battle Royale
- 🧰 Ready‑to‑print cards, rubrics, and facilitator notes
- Intro talk (AI in creative practice, ethics, bias)
- First images (prompt craft basics)
- Chaining 101 (Generate → Remove BG → Upscale → Stylize)
- 🎮 Game: Artistic Telephone (class‑wide)
- 🖼️ Mini‑gallery build
- Audio mini‑play (short loops, mood‑driven)
- Video mini‑play (2–4s clips, simple motion)
- 🎮 Game: Prompt Battle Royale (concept + constraints + remix)
- 🖼️ “Audio‑Visual Postcard” mini‑project + show & tell

✅ Using Replicate from Node.js and/or Python
✅ Image generation and image-to-image workflows
✅ Prompt engineering for style, composition, and constraints
✅ Managing costs, reproducibility, and deployment
✅ Ethics, safety, and best practices for AI in design
- Replicate charges per run; check model pricing pages and monitor usage.
- Prefer smaller/cheaper variants while iterating; batch wisely.
- Respect content policies and local laws; disclose AI assistance in design work where appropriate.
- Consider accessibility, bias, and provenance as part of your design criteria.
