Did I setup the gradle plugin correctly?

I have an android project with about 20 modules.

I want spotless (with ktfmt) to reformat all of my kt and kts build files.

I updated my top level build.gradle.kts to

plugins {

  id("com.diffplug.spotless") version "7.0.2"

configure<com.diffplug.gradle.spotless.SpotlessExtension> {
  kotlinGradle {
    ktfmt()
  }
  kotlin {
    ktfmt()
  }
}

When I run ./gradlew spotlessApply it gives me an error of "Could not determine the dependencies of task `:spotlessApply'.

If I go and update the spotless extention to

configure<com.diffplug.gradle.spotless.SpotlessExtension> {
  kotlinGradle {
    target("*.gradle.kts")
    ktfmt()
  }
  kotlin {
    target("**/*.kt")
    ktfmt()
  }
}

then it works.

I have this lingering feeling that I'm doing something incorrectly as the docs state that (for example) target("**/*.kt") is added automatically

@ColtonIdle I'm afraid that this is a known limitation of using Spotless in Android projects. However, we might be able to detect if a project is using Android and make the error message better... 🤔

Interesting. So I have to just specify the target? thats fine with me. just thought i was doing something wrong. especially after I saw the way the official android sample (nowinandroid) uses spotless confused me even more. see: https://github.com/android/nowinandroid/blob/main/gradle/init.gradle.kts

On top of that. I actually copied targetExclude("**/build/**/*.kt") into my app (like nowinandroid) and my spotlessApply task went from 20 seconds to 5 minutes. Removing targetExclude("/build//*.kt") dropped it back down to 20 seconds. Not to go on a tangent, but let me know if you think that's also needed or not.
