  1. [cpp] Attempt to implement the "topn" hack from nxopt, where it speeds 

    searches up significantly (about 1.4X).  In our tests so far we do not
see an equivalent speedup in twsearch.  This is likely because nxopt
uses a subgroup-based table, and twsearch uses an approximate
hashing-based table.  Need more experimentation and understanding.
