.avif image format support

I've noticed a sharp uptake of the .avif file format, it would be great to get the file format supported in the image loader, to avoid having to convert those images.

As a non-coder I have to ask, is that something I can do? or it has to be added to the the source code by the devs?

I was thinking about this over the last few weeks. I might be interested in at least creating an extension to support AVIF and JPEG XL saving, with workflow saved to the metadata, as with png and webp (not sure how hard it would be to get ComfyUI to read this back without a pull request?). It doesn't seem like it should be too complicated, there are Pillow plugins for both formats and Pillow has a pull request progressing nicely for native AVIF support.

Besides the improved efficiency and readiness for modern web deployment, these formats also support HDR bitdepth, which opens up the possibility of training loras on exposure bracketing, for HDR compositing. I've already seen an attempt at a log gamma lora on CivitAI too.

This extension is great for saving as AVIF. The core Load Image node also seems to be able to take AVIF files just fine (although I do need to change the filter on my upload dialogue window to select them). The only feature that I don't think currently works is loading workflows saved in AVIF metadata.

AVIF got native support in Pillow 11.3.0.

Seeing as deps support this, we just need to remove the hardcode dependency on .png.

Especially since more modern standards are leaps and bounds ahead of PNG, like JPEG-XL, which has 32 bit colour channels instead of PNG 16.

I realise PNG standard has been updated recently, it just wont be another 2-3 editions until the compression ratio issue is addressed(The on i care about). 2050?

Its a good standard, but we do need something better, i switched to .avif with a custom node. and now can fit so many more images in my setup, i have a 2TB NVME SSD, so i wont ever need to think about image space with ComfyUI with AVIF, only reason i am not using JPEG-XL is its very new & confidence in industry has been shaky for some weird reason (No idea why, other than being overwhelmed over all the modern formats, .avif seems to be widely supported: https://caniuse.com/avif).
