Subject: [coin-discuss] SoQt and IRIX [link problem solution]

IRIX has been the most problematic platform for getting SoQt compiled
and linked on. On some IRIX installations, "ar" will produce unusable
binaries for C++ libraries, and CC -ar -o must be used instead (that's
how things are on our O2). On other installations, CC -ar -o will not
link C++ libraries, and "ar cru" must be used.
When you run SoQt/configure, the default is to set up libtool to use
"CC -ar -o" for library linking. If that doesn't work for you, you
should try the other approach, which you will trigger by setting AR for
the configure script, like this:
../path/to/SoQt/configure --prefix=/install/path AR=ar
We'll see if we can figure out a configure check for detecting this
automatically, but until then, the above method is the recommended one.
