first delivery of the lesson on july 28:

  • stopped right before XPath Axes
  • originally allotted 1.5 hours for lesson, ended up having 1.25 hours, spend about 20-30 minutes on installation

Good about workshop:

  • majority of comments said good, simple exercises and examples
  • majority of comments said good content and lesson notes
  • useful information
  • applicable to work

Room for improvement:

  • vast majority of comments said that I went too fast

Recommendation:

  • have less exercises. the examples are still useful, but focus on building and understanding only one query for each new concept.
  • have a cheat sheet on hand and provide solutions

Room for improvement:

  • speak louder

Recommendation:

  • speak louder, speak into microphone

Room for improvement:

  • switch less between windows

Recommendation:

  • have only BaseX, etherpad, sample XML file displayed, don't show them the lesson. make sure have audience attention at the same time. have a cheatsheet and explain syntax by demo instead - split displays would be ideal but it'd be hard for presenter to view the BaseX windows

Room for improvement:

  • installation issues, having files downloaded. too much time spent on this portion

Recommendation:

  • have dedicated time to install software and go step by step to show them how to download files
